Results across the country are still rolling in — and that may continue for days to come. But for now, we want to give an update on key races we’ve been watching.
Presidential race

- As of 10 a.m. ET on Wednesday, results from the presidential election are still coming in, with a close election predicted. States are continuing to process mail-in and absentee ballots, which surged this year.
- Several key battleground states are too early to be called, including Arizona, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Georgia and Michigan.

Senate races
- Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell won his reelection bid in Kentucky, defeating Democratic challenger Amy McGrath. McConnell has served in the Senate since 1985.
- In Texas, Republican incumbent Sen. John Cornyn defeated Democratic challenger MJ Hegar.
- There is no projected winner in the U.S. Senate special election in Georgia. Republican Sen. Kelly Loeffler and Democrat Raphael Warnock will go to a runoff.
- Republican U.S. Rep. Roger Marshall won his race for U.S. Senate in Kansas, besting Democrat Barbara Bollier. Marshall currently serves as congressman for Kansas’ 1st Congressional District.
- Republican incumbent Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith beat Democratic challenger Mike Espy in Mississippi. Hyde-Smith is the state’s only woman in Congress.
- In Iowa, incumbent Sen. Joni Ernst defeated Democrat Theresa Greenfield in the most expensive Senate race in the state’s history.
House races
- Democrat Cori Bush won her election to the U.S. House in Missouri’s 1st Congressional District. Bush will be the first Black woman to represent Missouri in Congress.
- Democrat Wendy Davis lost her race in Texas‘ 21st Congressional District to Republican incumbent Rep. Chip Roy.
- Republican Yvette Herrell beat Democratic incumbent Xochitl Torres Small in New Mexico‘s 2nd Congressional District. Herrell is part of New Mexico’s first House delegation to be made up of all women of color.
Other races
- Republican incumbent Gov. Mike Parson won his Missouri gubernatorial race against Nicole Galloway. There has still never been a woman governor in Missouri.
- Sarah McBride won a historic election to Delaware’s state Senate, defeating Republican challenger Steve Washington. McBride’s win makes her the nation’s first openly transgender state senator.
