In a year when it’s seemed good news is in short supply, I’m thrilled to announce a very bright spot for The 19th — the addition of Terri Rupar as our inaugural political editor.

Terri is not a completely new player in The 19th’s orbit. Earlier this year, she worked as our editing liaison when we launched our publishing partnership with the Washington Post, where she was the politics projects editor. Terri helped edit nearly every story during that collaboration, including our very first story, published on Jan. 30, 2020: “‘There was always a “but”’: How Kamala Harris’s staff and supporters see her exit from the presidential race.” She also helped shepherd through The 19th’s story about Breonna Taylor, the first national piece on Taylor’s case. Terri was there through all of it, making our stories better and sharper. Now she’s officially on Team 19 — and we couldn’t be more excited about the energy and ideas she’s bringing to the gig.

A bit about Terri. She grew up in Charlotte, North Carolina, went to UNC-Chapel Hill, and has been at The Post since she graduated in 2003, serving in a variety of editing and digital roles, and eventually concentrating on politics and elections. She lives in the D.C. area with her family.

The 19th thanks our sponsors. Become one.

Her first day with The 19th will be Jan. 11, and you can follow her on Twitter at @terri_rupar.

Please join us in welcoming Terri to the team!
