Hannah Bernstein
I’m Hannah Bernstein, The 19th’s audience growth manager. I’m focused on finding new ways for our journalism to reach more people, explain more things and be more useful in the everyday lives of our readers. If you’ve got an idea for how we can do that better, I want to hear it.
I’ve worked in all corners of the media landscape and held plenty of odd jobs that have helped me think expansively about the purpose of journalism. That included everything from proofreading board games, fact-checking at Ensia Magazine, writing and podcast producing about energy science, and directing journalism grantmaking for Internews’ Earth Journalism Network (EJN), which supports journalists and newsrooms to report on climate and environment globally. At EJN, I also piloted a journalist-creator partnership program, leaning into this new era of news consumption on social media platforms.
I grew up in Minnesota, and I’ll always be a Midwesterner at heart. I lived in Boston for five years (where I studied journalism and environmental science at Northeastern University) and then moved to Florida, where I live now just outside of Orlando with my spouse and three cats.
My work is free to consume and free to republish because of contributions from readers like you. A donation of $19 goes a long way toward sustaining our nonprofit newsroom.
