Jasmine Mithani

Technology Reporter (She/Her)

I’m Jasmine Mithani, the technology reporter at The 19th. My coverage revolves around themes of information access, privacy and politics. Online experiences shape our offline world, so I often write about extremism and intimate partner violence as well.  

My reporting frequently centers LGBTQ+ perspectives and intersects with reproductive rights. I have a soft spot for stories about the South Asian diaspora and good books and try to report on solutions, not just problems.

I have a background in data reporting and collaborate with our partner SurveyMonkey to ask good questions. I contributed to The 19th’s award-winning coverage of the Dobbs decision and Kamala Harris’ nomination.  

Never formally trained as a journalist, I was instead nurtured by Chicago’s civic media ecosystem. I’ve previously worked at FiveThirtyEight, NPR and South Side Weekly. I like video games where you can play as a girl, and I read arguably too much. I now live back home in Los Angeles after a decade of Midwestern winters.
