Leah Proctor-Ford
Hello! I’m Leah Proctor-Ford, The 19th’s development fellow. My experiences in news include work in editorial and business roles, with local to international audiences, in corporate and nonprofit structures. I imagine the future of journalism and build strategies to make possibilities into reality.
As operations manager at Outlier Media, an award-winning nonprofit news organization based in Detroit, I led project implementation for our sponsored studio. We partnered with community organizations and philanthropies to highlight Detroit stories and initiatives to improve residents’ quality of life. Our projects innovated with unique news products, including SMS.
I am a proud alumna of Spelman College, the place that made it all possible; I studied U.S. History. After graduation, I entered the tech and startup world as a Venture For America and HBCUvc to learn more about how revenue shapes growth.
In 2022, I launched an independent consulting practice and became a full-time entrepreneur. My partners include startups, non-profits and small businesses led by women and LGBTQ+ founders. The work focuses on expanding capacity, especially for historically underrepresented groups.
My work is free to consume and free to republish because of contributions from readers like you. A donation of $19 goes a long way toward sustaining our nonprofit newsroom.
