Sarah Porter
I’m Sarah Porter, The 19th’s brand designer. As a part of the creative team, I help shape how our visual brand shows up across all of our print and digital media — that includes social media, events, newsletters and so much more. I work to ensure our journalism is reaching and resonating with our growing audience.
I grew up painting, collaging and otherwise mess-making, all of which continue to inform my creative practice to this day. I’m interested in the intersection of digital and traditional media and using this humanist design approach to foster connection and conversation.
My career in design began at cultural nonprofits, working on their outreach and development efforts. Prior to joining The 19th, I worked in both hypergrowth tech and higher education, helping to scale evolving brands and steward established ones. My work at The 19th has been recognized by the Society for News Design.
I’m a proud native Pittsburgher (read: Yinzer) and I’m deeply involved in my local community. When I’m not huddled over Figma or InDesign, you might instead find me huddled over a pottery wheel, a book or my latest textile project.
My work is free to consume and free to republish because of contributions from readers like you. A donation of $19 goes a long way toward sustaining our nonprofit newsroom.
