Newsroom Leaders on Gender, Press Freedom and Democracy

December 3, 2025

How are these women newsroom leaders holding the line when both press freedom and democratic norms are under attack?

Join The 19th and the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY for a timely conversation featuring newsroom leaders shaping national and political coverage: Errin Haines, editor-at-large for The 19th; Betsy Reed, editor of Guardian US; and Nikki Ogunnaike, editor-in-chief of Marie Claire.

These newsroom leaders will explore how gender-focused and inclusive storytelling can fortify the civic trust on which democracy depends—challenging polarization, navigating unprecedented attacks on press freedom, and redefining what public-interest journalism can look like in this fractured moment.

  • Where: Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY, 219 W 40th St., New York, NY 10018
