We’re hiring a Development Associate, Philanthropy

Minimum salary: $70K/year

Location: Remote – Anywhere (U.S.) 

Reports to: Chief Revenue Officer

The 19th is hiring a development associate to help coordinate fundraising activity, write internal and external communications and conduct research on prospective donors.

In this critical role, you’ll help keep our fundraising moving forward by supporting efforts for current and future philanthropy. You’ll be instrumental in supporting our daily work, as well as short and long term projects within the department. You should have experience in development work, donor relations and be a strong writer, but more importantly, you should be eager to learn about the inner workings of philanthropic development. You should have a genuine interest in this work, and in helping us grow our philanthropy operations while holding equity at the center of all you do.

Responsibilities include: 

  • Conducting research on existing and future donor and foundation philanthropy prospects
  • Reaching out to prospects and coordinating calls, meetings and travel
  • Writing copy for mass mailings, outreach and other stakeholder communications
  • Gathering information for proposals and grants
  • Writing meeting and event briefs
  • Writing philanthropic proposals and reports
  • Creating powerpoint presentations for meetings and reports
  • Coordinating and planning cultivation and fundraising events
  • Assisting with donor stewardship activities 
  • Embracing the mission of The 19th by articulating its values and vision to donors from a variety of backgrounds

Non-essential duties (as capacity permits):

  • Participate in culture building, inclusive decision making, and bringing ideas to different parts of our work in order to help us improve as an organization. For example, helping to onboard new team members and participating in our hiring process
  • Participate in team building, organizational and individual relationship building, and professional development throughout the year
  • Other duties as assigned

Relevant skills include: 

  • 1-3 years in development or equivalent experience
  • At least 1 year of experience (and confidence in) writing externally-facing written communications
  • Exceptional interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience in researching prospective donors, sponsors, investors or community partners a plus
  • Experience with supporting or writing grant proposals a plus
  • Experience with nonprofits, startups and remote environments a plus
  • Self-motivated, enjoys problem-solving and has a desire to learn new things
  • Thrives in an early-stage environment (we’re building things now)
  • Superior organizational skills, with exceptional follow-through on tasks, goals and deadlines
  • High proficiency with G-Suite, MS Office and productivity platforms
  • Proficiency with at least one CRM a plus
