Terri Rupar

Editorial Director (She/Her)

I’m Terri Rupar, an editorial director at The 19th, editing coverage that spans politics and elections, LGBTQ+ issues, and technology. I worked at The Washington Post for more than 17 years before joining The 19th after the 2020 election. Even before coming on board, I helped edit some of The 19th’s first stories. I was drawn to The 19th’s mission and a desire to do the kind of political journalism I thought was too often missing.

I love stories that help us better understand what Americans really want. I love stories that connect politics to policy and grapple with complexity. And I love working with reporters to find the best way to clearly communicate with readers about what people are telling them and what they’re seeing.

I’m a graduate of the University of North Carolina and watch less college basketball than I used to. I currently live in Washington, D.C., with my kid and my dog and occasionally a foster pup.

My work is free to consume and free to republish because of contributions from readers like you. A donation of $19 goes a long way toward sustaining our nonprofit newsroom.
