Political Editor (She/Her)

I’m Terri Rupar, the political editor at The 19th, which means I run a team of reporters focused on the people we elect and the electorate who has a chance to vote for them. I worked at The Washington Post for more than 17 years before joining The 19th after the 2020 election. Even before coming on board, I helped edit some of The 19th’s first stories. I was drawn to The 19th’s mission and a desire to do the kind of political journalism I thought was too often missing.

I love stories that bring smart observations about what candidates are saying or how they’re acting; I love stories that help us understand more what voters really want. And I love working with reporters to find the best way to clearly communicate with readers about what they’re seeing and hearing.

I’m a graduate of the University of North Carolina and watch less college basketball than I used to. I currently live in Washington, D.C.

My work is free to consume and free to republish because of contributions from readers like you. A donation of $19 goes a long way toward sustaining our nonprofit newsroom.
